Egypt finally re-opened the border with the Palestinians

Egypt finally re-opened the border with the Palestinians in the Rafah area. Thousands of people are now able to cross the area directly adjacent to the Gaza Strip for the first time after four years.

As reported by AFP on Saturday (05/28/2011), this policy came into effect today at 09.00 am local time for 8 hours a day. The population in the Gaza Strip is now able to go to Egypt without passing through Israel's blockade.

What does Egypt is of course welcomed by the Palestinian group Hamas. Instead, Israel has strongly condemned such activities.

Not only hundreds of people who cross the border, there is also an ambulance containing the patient from Gaza who want medical treatment in Egypt. In the car there were 12 people injured.

"I came here three years ago to rejoin the family. But because of my residence permit has expired, border officials told me not to return until now," said Jamal Nijem, an Egyptian citizen who 'stuck' in Rafah.
